The 3 month art event will kick off on 12 December 2012 at Kochi . 80 local and foreign artists from 24 countries will exhibit site-specific art works. A sustained education program will also commence during the three months.
Film installation to painting sculpture, new media and performance art, are aimed to recreate the cultural legacy of the modern day Kochi and its mythical predecessor, at the ancient port Muziris.

The BRICS Project, a collateral exhibition curated by Alfons Hug, director of the GoetheInstitute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will feature artists from far and wide Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Germany.
Acting as a run-up to the event, German modern artist Eberhard Havekost’s exhibition “Sightseeing Trip” will be held in collaboration with Dresden State Art Collections. This will be in April at the Durbar Hall Kochi.
Biennale is Italian for “every other year” or any event that happens every two years. Commonly used within the art world to describe an international manifestation of contemporary art, the word is derived from the use of the phrase for the Venice Biennale.
The exhibition will be set in spaces across the expanse of Kochi, Muziris and the surrounding islands. Existing galleries and halls, and site-specific installations in public spaces, heritage buildings and disused structures will exhibit art work as well.
