NRIs in the USA, Canada and other parts of the world stick to their root when it comes to wedding. The Gen Y of Indian origin in America may have a modern outlook and contemporary lifestyle, but they prefer to flaunt Indian fashion in their wedding ceremonies on the foreign soil. The bridal fashion of India is rich, varied, bright and colorful. With contemporary designers having redefined the beauty of brides through their innovations, the Indian wedding fashion has undergone evolutions in design, look, color and fabric, to suit the taste of NRIs. The recent Indian Bridal Fashion Week 2013, held in Delhi the capital of India, showcased the rare mélange of trends and traditions in the designs of bridal outfits from eminent designers’ signature ensembles. Bollywood beauties walked the ramp as stunning showstoppers for the participating designers. Indian Eagle presents some highlights of IBFW 2013 that connected NRIs with their root:
Kangana Ranaut, showstopper for JJ Valaya
Dressed as a modern bride in an ethnic lehenga from designer JJ Valaya’s wedding special ensemble, Bollywood actress Kangana walked the ramp on the inaugural day of Indian Bridal Fashion Week 2013. Her resplendent appearance in a multicolored lehenga with a bright golden hue and a peacock blue velvet choli stole the show with elite fashionistas. Her bridal look was complemented with a piece of headdress cum jewellery.
Sonam Kapoor, showstopper for Rohit Bal
Sonam Kapoor whose latest release Bhaag Milkha Bhaag with Farhan Akhtar hit the box office showcased the best of bridal ensembles from Rohit Bal’s repertoire at IBFW 2013. The cream-colored lehenga choli that she was dressed in was embellished with delicate embroidery of golden fabric. Adorned with kundan jewellery of the Amrapali era, Sonam represented the royal beauty of an Indian bride. She scorched the ramp with a sensuous aura.
Chitrangada Singh, showstopper for Suneet Varma
The fifth day of IBFW 2013 was more glamorous owing to the unmatched vivacity of actress Chitrangada Singh who walked the ramp for renowned designer Suneet Varma. A departure from the traditional look of a typical bride, Chitrangada appeared in a red shimmery lehenga with rich golden work. A red dupatta with golden zari border was nicely paired up with the lehenga. Her no-ornament simple look grabbed eyeballs.
Sophie Choudhry, showstopper for Rina Dhaka
Highlighting the colorful beauty of Rina Dhaka’s bridal ensemble, singer-actress Sophie walked the ramp. The aura of sophistication around her bridal appearance in an orange-green lehenga with contemporary embroidery caught the attention of fashion-conscious socialites. She flaunted a multicolored strapless blouse and a glittering net dupatta as pallu over her head in rhyme with the lehenga. With difference from the traditional bridal attires, this Rina Dhaka signature outfit spelled magic over the senses.
Esha Gupta, showstopper for Adarsh Gill
Red is the most prominent hue in the color palette of traditional bridal fashion in India. Though other colors such as white, blue, pink, orange, green and purple have been added to the palette, red still retains its sheen. Esha Gupta reflected the glow of red in a richly embellished lehenga from Adarsh Gill’s bridal range. The dazzles of diamond ornaments accented the gold work on the blouse and the lehenga.
Lisa Haydon, showstopper for Tarun Tahilani
IBFW 2013 culminated in a most spectacular fashion festivity with Lisa Haydon’s dazzling appearance on the ramp. Dressed in the best of Tarun Tahilani’s signature bridal collection, Lisa outshined the glam of the other days of the event. She represented a contemporary bride from the 21st century India, in a creamy white lehenga paired with a crystal-studded choli and a net dupatta. Her bridal attire with rich embellishment was a pink of perfection.
